Bart Joachim Van Uden: balancing real and faux

Dutch designer Bart Joachim Van Uden – a graduate of the Eindhoven Design Academy – is known for projects with a luxurious vibe, in search of formal beauty from a completely original perspective. For his “Romancing the Stone” furniture series, part of the “Transition III” project, he digitally processed Google Earth photographs that portray pristine landscapes, printing them on aluminum and using them to mimic marble and rich stone tops for consoles and dressers.

The outcome is definitely chic, in perfect balance between real and faux material – with the great plus of lower costs. Van Uden’s furniture indeed is relatively inexpensive, despite making up a lavish system with classic appeal.
