Restaurant 48 Urban Garden rises in Athens, on the ground floor of the Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center. One hundred and ninety square meters designed by all-female studio AK-A, with a friendly atmosphere and a luminous and lush garden.
Architects Minna Colakis and Katerina Apostolou designed a sculptural wooden landscape composed of spaces on various levels in which to sit, a bar area (in the form of a vintage trailer), green zones for trees and garden beds in which to grow vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs.
The light and casual atmosphere of the garden is reiterated in the restaurant's interiors. The main space on two levels opens onto the kitchen, where the chefs prepare organic dishes using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
Artificial ivy covers all surfaces and the extra-large bench in front of the garden creates a surreal space, which is warm and welcoming thanks to the use of strings of lights, green stools and tables.
The color palette is fresh and clean. Lime, olive green and white contrast with the surfaces in wood and dark metal. The light and dark patterns stand out, adding a cheerful and geometric look to the walls. But the touch of class that makes these motifs even more dynamic is given by the lighting, custom designed by Minna and Katerina.
