For Maria Grazia Mormando photography is like a mirror. In which to reflect oneself, discover one's emotions, one's being in the world. At the same time, for the photographer it's a way of seeing how the subjects she portrays perceive her presence.
Because the image is never as you would expect. In this sense surprise is what fuels Mormando in her explorations. Her shots of reality seem to coexist with dreams. Past, present and future disappear, leaving space for just spirit, in its timeless qualities: immortal emotions, so immaterial and yet at the same time concrete.
Apart from her personal artistic projects, Maria Grazia Mormando is also a documentary photographer for the Nuovo Cinema Palazzo in Rome. She shoots for fashion brands such as Ludovica Amati Le Gallinelle, Co.Ro Jewels, Iosselliani, Voodoo Jewels, Aroma30. She is also the photographer of Aspecifico by Myriam Bottazzi (an artist whose studio is in the building of former pasta factory Pastificio Cerere).
In her next exhibition "imMATERIA", Mormondo will present a series of exercises in which she captures subjects as they experiment with daily objects or with materials of various nature. The aim is to create a particular relationship between the subject and the object that explores the concept of matter and the immateriality in which the object transcends itself through an intimate act the subject performed on it.
