Second-hand pieces find new life and renewed function thanks to designer Jean-Pascal Gauthier, who creates sophisticated lamps using repurposed elements.
Hailing from Quebec, Canada, Gauthier is a self-taught designer of 34 years of age. He previously used to do renovation work, then decided he wanted to do justice to the objects he had found throughout the years. The resulting lighting pieces almost appear weightless, and experts might recognize in them hints of the Memphis movement's experimentations.
All the lamps are handmade in brass, wood (primarily walnut and teak), acrylic and steel. Their sleek joints create elegant lines suspended in mid air.
