Maasai inspiration for Serena Confalonieri

Vases with geometrical volumes, stripes and contrasting color inserts, with the added touch of faux fur decorations: the “Masai” collection is only the latest example of Serena Confalonieri’s signature fluid balance between mixed-and-matched product and graphic design.

The Milanese designer and art director was inspired by the traditional symbols that the Maasai people display on their skin to signal their belonging to different clans. Her collection of tribal vases echoes their archetypes as well as their jewelry and decorations, with streamlined silhouettes paired with strong colors and fringes making for fun and bold home decor. Confalonieri worked for architecture studios in Milan, Barcelona and Berlin and won many accolades, including the Special Mention at the 2014 Young&Design Awards and the 2016 German Design Awards.
