Marine Serre: sportswear aesthetics and ties to the past

Fashion designer Marine Serre has created a unique style were silhouette, fabrics and textures merge with a signature mix of street style elements and sartorial details. Case in point: her “Radical Call for Love” collection applies technical materials and details inspired by sportswear to full skirts, gloves, transparencies, high heels and plateau shoes.

Born in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, Serre was an intern for some of the world’s most important fashion houses – including Christian Dior, Maison Margiela and Alexander McQueen. This year, she was awarded the LVMH Prize, winning against some 1,200 other candidates. The appeal of her latest collection is in the blend of 19th-century Arabic dresses’ luxury and the futuristic lines of sportswear, always with an echo of Futurism. The resulting outfits are definitely original and stand out for their style and silhouette, with contrasts that spark curiosity and attract.
