Stefan Gunnesch has a background in communication design and now mostly works as book designer and illustrator. His creative research is deeply influenced by a passion he’s always had for typography.
His collages mix various techniques and bring dream-like images to life; his protagonists are strong yet have no identity of their own, thus becoming universal types. Obscurity and absence, overlapping textures, romantic and dark details: these are the elements Gunnesch combines to create work now included in the international collections of museums and specialized libraries.
On top of his artistic work, Gunnesch often teaches at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany, and works at his book design firm, Bildschriftlich.
