Studio Truly Truly: material contrasts between shadow and light

Australian designers Joel and Kate Booy are the minds behind Rotterdam’s Studio Truly Truly and its products, a mix of industrial design and art. The duo works on interior decor at different levels: from object design to lighting systems to upholstering fabrics.

Studio Truly Truly’s “Column Lights” – created for the “Transition III” exhibition by Baars & Bloemhoff – are lights and sculptures, or better totems meant to stand out in any room they may be placed. The Booys designed them in anodized aluminum and Forbo Bulletin Board linoleum, which features a particular coarse texture. The two materials make for an interesting contrast between finishes, while LEDs play with lights and shadows and give the system a beautiful material structure.
