Can an object spur reflection on how reality may have two sides, just like any coin? Elina Ulvio and her “Lampi” series make us answer “yes”. The Finnish designer, part of Luomo Collective, has created a group of items that can be used as mirrors or trays, depending on whether they are propped up or laid down.
The constant change in color and ability to refract images and light enhances interaction with the surrounding space, responding to it and leading observers to wonder which is the “real” reality: the tangible one or the one reflected? Ulvio’s projects have been described as “functional art” because they put function at the top of priorities, but definitely add interesting food for thought in the use of each object.
