Yuri Andries, unsettling, fascinating, primordial

In Lanzarote the biggest eruption ever registered of the Timanfaya took place in the course of six years, between 1730 and 1736. In that span of time entire kilometers of land and 26 villages were destroyed. A tragedy that forced the majority of the population to leave the island.

This unique and violent chapter of human and natural history is portrayed by photographer Yuri Andries, whose lens captures the surreal and suspended spirit of this geographic area. Project "In Memory Of A Monolith" is a trip back in time: unsettling, fascinating, primordial.
